Each WAGABOX® project is led by a dedicated team working closely with the landfill operator from construction through commissioning. Waga Energy pre assembles and tests the equipment in its workshops while managing the balance of plant and grid interconnections – significantly shortening construction time and accelerating start up. Once delivered, the equipment is connected to the landfill gas capture system, the electrical supply, and the local gas grid. Expert supervised pre commissioning and commissioning ensure a safe, reliable start up and a seamless transition to RNG injection.

The main requirements are: a sufficient landfill gas flow rate (from 300–400 Nm³/h), an operational gas collection system with good coverage of the site, and an accessible injection point on the natural gas grid (road transportation may also be considered in certain cases). Waga Energy conducts a feasibility study to assess the potential of your site and identify any preparatory work that may be required.
How does Waga Energy assess a landfill site’s methane generation potential and the project’s profitability?
As part of its feasibility study, Waga Energy analyzes the characteristics of the landfill gas—including flow rate, composition, and collection history—based on data collected by the site operator. The feasibility study also includes modeling of the expected RNG production, an analysis of the grid connection conditions, and an estimate of the revenues the project could generate for the landfill operator.
What are the operational responsibilities of a landfill operator equipped with a WAGABOX® unit?
The operator’s responsibilities remain consistent with its usual activities: maintaining the gas collection system (including well maintenance and condensate management) and delivering the raw landfill gas to the WAGABOX® unit. Site access and perimeter security also remain the operator’s responsibility. Waga Energy takes care of everything else, including the operation, maintenance, performance management, and 24/7 monitoring of the WAGABOX® unit. No additional technical expertise is required from the operator.
What is the typical timeframe between signing the contract and commissioning a WAGABOX® unit?
Once the contract has been signed, commissioning typically takes place within 18 to 24 months. This timeframe covers the manufacturing of the WAGABOX® unit in our workshops, the obtaining of regulatory permits, civil engineering works, and connection to the gas grid. Waga Energy coordinates all of these stages and supports you through to the injection of the first cubic meters of biomethane into the network.

Waga Energy handles all administrative procedures related to the project, including operating permits, environmental authorizations (ICPE in France), gas grid connection, and environmental reporting requirements. With operations in multiple countries across Europe, North America, and Brazil, the company has extensive expertise in local regulatory frameworks and ensures compliant project deployment without requiring significant involvement from your internal resources.
Does installing a WAGABOX® unit require modifications to my gas collection system?
The feasibility study assesses the condition of your gas collection system and identifies any adjustments that may be required, such as wellfield expansion, condensate management, or flow optimization. If needed, these works are generally considered part of the site’s routine maintenance operations and remain the responsibility of the operator. Waga Energy provides support with system sizing and can recommend qualified service providers.
What land area and utility connections are required to install a WAGABOX® unit?
A WAGABOX® unit requires a relatively compact footprint—comparable to a basketball court for the smallest units—ideally located close to the gas collection network.
