Biogaz Intake<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">The raw biogas delivered to the WAGABOX\u00ae unit contains methane, carbon dioxide and air (oxygen and nitrogen), and is often heavy with moisture. It also contains traces of other gases, particularly hydrogen sulfide and volatile organic compounds (VOCs). The raw biogas needs to be pretreated before starting methane separation.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_1 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot__text\">2<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">2. Pretreatment<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">Before upgrading biogas, the hydrogen sulfide is removed using activated carbon to prevent corrosion, minimize SOx emissions and protect equipment. The biogas is then cooled in a heat exchanger to remove the water through condensation.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_2 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot__text\">3<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">3. Membrane Compressor<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">The membrane upgrading module consists of a compressor and sets of membranes, all installed inside a container. The unit separates the carbon dioxide from the other components. The container also houses other equipment: controllers that operate the installation, control valves and another compressor which sends the biomethane to the injection station.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_3 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot__text\">4<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">4. Elimination of VOCs<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">The pressure swing adsorption system, or PSA, removes the volatile organic compounds present in the biogas. It comprises three vessels mounted side-by-side which contain different adsorber beds.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_4 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot__text\">5<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">5. Membraine Filtration<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">Compression is raised followed by gas cooling, drying and oil removal. The CO2 is removed with 2 stages of polymeric membranes.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_5 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot__text\">6<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">6. Pressure and temperature swing adsorption<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">The pressure and temperature swing adsorption system, or PTSA, removes any residual traces of carbon dioxide from the biogas before cryogenic distillation to prevent \u201cdry ice\u201d from being formed. The PTSA consists of two vessels which contain microporous adsorbents and operate alternately: when one vessel is in the adsorption phase, the other is regenerating.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_6 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot__text\">7<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">7. Cryogenic Distillation Unit<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">The cryogenic distillation unit separates the methane from the nitrogen and oxygen contained in the biogas. It consists of a distillation column and a heat exchanger. A small amount of liquid nitrogen is used, particularly during the start-up phase. The biogas is cooled to -161\u00b0C (112K) to liquefy the methane, which is recovered through gravity, whereas air gases are sent to the oxidizer.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_7 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot__text\">8<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">8. Injection Station<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">At the end of the upgrading process, the methane is 98% pure: landfill gas has become biomethane. Biomethane is transported to the grid operator\u2019s injection station. The station contains equipment for checking the compliance of the biomethane with injection requirements, odorizing the gas to help detect leaks should they occur, and measuring the volume injected.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_8 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><span class=\"et-pb-icon  dnxte-hotspot_icon\">P<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">Thermal oxidizer<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">The thermal oxidizer is used to burn off the different gas flows generated by the landfill gas upgrading process (particularly those containing VOCs) to prevent the emission of pollutants into the atmosphere.<\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div><\/div>\r\n\r\n<div class=\"dnxte_hotspot_child_9 dnxte_hotspot_child has-hotspot-child et_pb_module\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_child\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspot\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-item tooltip-bottom\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-content\"><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-hotspots__wrapper\"><span class=\"et-pb-icon  dnxte-hotspot_icon\">P<\/span><\/div><\/div><div class=\"dnxte-hostpot-tooltip-text\"><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content-container\"><div class=\"dnxte_tooltip_text\">Electrical Room<\/div><div class=\"dnxte-tooltip-content\">The electrical room houses the control system, the electrical cabinets, the telecom rack and other equipment.
