The Quebec Government is providing CA$15M (US$10.8M)\u00a0in financial support to Waga Energy Canada for the construction of a renewable natural gas (RNG) production facility at the R\u00e9gie des mati\u00e8res r\u00e9siduelles du Lac-Saint-Jean (RMR) landfill site in H\u00e9bertville-Station, in the Saguenay\u2013Lac-Saint-Jean region.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

An RNG Project Supporting Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Climate Objectives<\/h2>

This funding represents a key milestone in the implementation of the project, which was signed in November 2024 and is now entering the construction phase. The funding is provided through the Electrification and Climate Change Fund and forms part of the 2025\u20132030 Implementation Plan of the 2030 Green Economy Plan, which aims to integrate 10% RNG into Quebec\u2019s gas network by 2030.<\/p>\n

Using WAGABOX\u00ae technology, the facility will produce up to 200,000 GJ per year (approximately 55 GWh), equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 2,900 Quebec households, and will help avoid 9,400 metric tons of CO\u2082e per year.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n

A Circular Economy Project for the Saguenay\u2013Lac-Saint-Jean Region<\/h2>

Operated by the RMR, the H\u00e9bertville-Station landfill site serves 50 municipalities and receives 203,500 metric tons of waste per year. The biogas is currently flared. With the WAGABOX\u00ae unit, it will now be purified and upgraded into RNG, then injected into \u00c9nergir\u2019s gas network\u2014representing a major circular economy project supporting the energy transition in the Saguenay\u2013Lac-Saint-Jean region.<\/p>\n

This is Waga Energy\u2019s fourth RNG project in Qu\u00e9bec. Three WAGABOX\u00ae units are already in operation in Saint-\u00c9tienne-des-Gr\u00e8s, Cowansville, and Chicoutimi. A fifth unit is operating in British Columbia, on Vancouver Island.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n
