{"id":22414,"date":"2023-05-25T16:04:13","date_gmt":"2023-05-25T14:04:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/waga-staging.rambert-web.fr\/?p=22414"},"modified":"2026-07-09T11:09:33","modified_gmt":"2026-07-09T09:09:33","slug":"commissioning-of-the-first-international-wagabox-unit-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/waga-staging.rambert-web.fr\/en-ca\/commissioning-of-the-first-international-wagabox-unit-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Commissioning of the first international WAGABOX\u00ae unit"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"et_pb_section_0 et_pb_section et_section_regular et_flex_section\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_0 et_pb_row et_flex_row et_animated post-chapeau-row\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column_0 et_pb_column et-last-child et_flex_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et_flex_column_24_24 et_flex_column_24_24_tablet et_flex_column_24_24_phone\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_cta_0 et_pb_promo et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_flex_module post-chapeau\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_description\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_content\"><p>Waga\u00a0Energy just commissioned a new Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) production unit at the Saint-\u00c9tienne-des-Gr\u00e9s landfill, located in Quebec, Canada and operated by \u00c9nercycle.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_1 et_pb_row et_flex_row et_animated post-text-row\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column_1 et_pb_column et-last-child et_flex_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et_flex_column_24_24 et_flex_column_24_24_tablet et_flex_column_24_24_phone\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_cta_1 et_pb_promo et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_flex_module post-text\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_description\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_content\"><p>To this day, this WAGABOX\u00ae\u00a0unit is the largest commissioned by Waga Energy. It processes over\u00a0<strong>2,000\u00a0scfm<\/strong>\u00a0(3,400 m\u00b3\/h) of LFG and produces up to\u00a0<strong>445,000\u00a0MMBtu<\/strong>\u00a0(130 GWh or 12,400,000 m\u00b3\u00a0or 468,000 GJ) of RNG per year, which represents the annual consumption of approximately\u00a0<strong>8,000 households<\/strong>\u00a0in Quebec. The RNG produced is sold to the local utility, \u00c9nergir, and injected directly into its natural gas distribution system.<\/p>\n<p>Saint-\u00c9tienne-des-Gr\u00e9s is Quebec\u2019s largest local authority-managed landfill site and disposes of 180,000 tons of waste annually. The gas produced by the waste was previously collected and flared. Building a WAGABOX\u00ae\u00a0unit in this site avoids the emissions of\u00a0<strong>21,500 of CO<sub>2<\/sub>e<\/strong>\u00a0each year.<\/p>\n<p>The WAGABOX\u00ae unit was built in Quebec by Waga\u00a0Energy\u2019s Canadian subsidiary with support from local contractors. Only the cryogenic distillation unit was built in France, which is a key component of the WAGABOX\u00ae\u00a0unit.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first WAGABOX\u00ae\u00a0unit that Waga\u00a0Energy has commissioned overseas. Three additional facilities are being built in Canada and two others in the United States and Spain.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"et_pb_row_2 et_pb_row et_flex_row et_animated post-text-row\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_column_2 et_pb_column et-last-child et_flex_column et_pb_css_mix_blend_mode_passthrough et_flex_column_24_24 et_flex_column_24_24_tablet et_flex_column_24_24_phone\">\n<div class=\"et_pb_cta_2 et_pb_promo et_pb_bg_layout_light et_pb_module et_flex_module post-text\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_description\"><div class=\"et_pb_promo_content\"><p>\u201c<em>The successful commissioning of North America\u2019s first WAGABOX<span>\u00ae<\/span>\u00a0unit marks a key milestone in the rollout of our solution designed to tackle climate change and promote the energy transition. This first unit outside France is also Waga\u00a0Energy\u2019s largest, proving our ability to deploy our innovative technology throughout the world, drawing on our teams\u2019 expertise and the dynamism of local ecosystems. Renewable natural gas is a clean and local energy source that harnesses the potential of landfill waste and directly substitutes fossil-based energy for heating and transportation, making it a key driver of the energy transition. A shared commitment to preserving the common good provided the basis of cooperation with our partners in Quebec, particularly \u00c9nergir and \u00c9nercycle, which proved pivotal to the success of this fantastic project rooted in the region and anchored in the long term.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"level-s\"><strong>Mathieu Lefebvre<\/strong><span>\u00a0<\/span><em>CEO of<span>\u00a0<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/waga-energy.com\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Waga Energy<\/a><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201c<em>We are extremely proud to be the first in Canada to benefit from a WAGABOX<span>\u00ae<\/span>\u00a0unit. When it comes to achieving this goal, every project counts and makes a difference, as we have seen in Saint-\u00c9tienne-des-Gr\u00e8s, which is now Quebec\u2019s sixth project injecting RNG into \u00c9nergir\u2019s grid. Once again, collaboration and innovation have provided the basis for a successful project.
